Colts Battle Atlanta Falcons in German Capital – Week 10 NFL Action

Guten tag, football fans. Wie gehts? Alles klar I hope on this excellent early start to the tenth week coming straight outta Germany. The Olympiastadion in Berlin to be exact where at 9:30 AM EST and 2:30 PM GMT the powerful Colts (seven wins and two losses) take on the Atlanta Falcons (3-5). The fifth game played on German soil and the initial in the nation’s capital.

Pregame Highlights

As sparkly jackets go that is an real standout from the Olympic figure skater on the opening flip. A slight fluff from the broadcast team there as we hear “who won the toss?” from the presenter with an unfortunately hot mic.

So, the Colts have won the toss and have chosen to get the ball first. Daniel Jones and company will be taking the field soon. Will the QB bounce back after a rough one in their last game?

In a similar vein the vocalist performing the US national anthem has some of the largest shoulder pads you are bound to notice. Loving the sartorial choices today. The game is about to start after a choral number for the national anthem of Germany. Elegant.

First Quarter Action

Colts 0-0 Falcons 13:30, 1st quarter

And we're off! And we have early drama after the Colts running back receives a short throw, sweeps out for 15 yards to the right side then loses the ball … only for his offensive lineman to save his bacon with the ball retrieval. Indianapolis quickly moves into Atlanta's half.

Colts 0-0 Falcons 10:51, 1st quarter

And the drama keeps coming as the Indianapolis attempts a fourth-down conversion. The risk doesn't work out as the wide receiver cannot reel in a fastball from Jones. On the play before the turnover on downs Jessie Bates put a huge hit on the Colts' tight end. The Falcons have come out fighting on defense as they attempt to end their string of three losses. Next up Sauce Garner’s debut!

Touchdown Recap

First score: Colts lead 6-0 at 8:36

Was that a missed touchdown by Kyle Pitts? The tight end drops a clanger, he was very open but the ball just swishes through his hands. That moment reflects the high draft pick's professional journey to date.

A disappointing start but it only deteriorates for the Atlanta as they cough the ball back to the Colts on the 23-yard line. Michael Penix Jr is sacked and fumbles the football.

A nifty 22-yard run from Ashton Dulin sets Jonathan Taylor up to roll in for the score on the following play. The placekicker skews the extra point wide. Mistake.

Falcons respond: 6-7 at 6:07

The quarterback recovers from the turnover by leading Atlanta on a long drive for a score of their own. Drake London makes some substantial catches to put them in the scoring area then the defense opens up for the running back to run untouched into the end zone through the middle of the defense for a 13-yard gain. The running back finishes it off for a short scoring run of his own. Advantage Atlanta.

Additional Tenth Week Games

And for afters, the jumbo package starting at 12pm CST/1pm EST/6pm GMT (with home teams first) is as follows:

  • (5-4) Carolina Panthers v New Orleans Saints (1-8)

  • (5-3) Chicago Bears v Giants (2-7)

  • (3-5) Houston Texans v Jaguars (5-3)

  • (2-7) Dolphins v Bills (6-2)

  • (4-4) Vikings v Baltimore Ravens (3-5)

  • (1-7) Jets v Cleveland Browns (2-6)

  • (6-2) Buccaneers v Patriots (7-2)

What a feast. My pick for the best game is Minnesota and Baltimore playing out the game of the day.
