"We all had positive times with Billups and his coaching style," Splitter said. "We're thinking of him and his loved ones but we have a job to do."

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver 'Disturbed' by Arrests

Addressing the arrests for the initial occasion, league head Adam Silver stated he was "very upset" by the events of the recent days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and its fans than the integrity of the game," he told a broadcaster. "Therefore I had a pit in my stomach. It was disturbing."

Silver also mentioned an league probe into the player's conduct in March 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a game he played for the Charlotte Hornets against the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"We were informed by the regulators and the gambling firms," he added.

"We then looked into the matter and were very transparent about it. Although there was that aberrational betting, we, frankly, couldn't find anything.

"Federal authorities has subpoena power... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the league office is unable to.

"So, we've been cooperating from that point. And, of course, what they revealed yesterday was an indictment.

"And 30 months after, he has not been found guilty of any offense, in fairness to Rozier.

"Obviously, it doesn't look good, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a compromise in this case between upholding rights and conducting an inquiry."
