Two men have been charged in connection with a luggage theft where a substance thought to be irritant spray caused injuries at the UK's busiest airport.

Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, are accused of two counts of robbery and two counts of deploying a toxic agent, according to official statements.

The charges follow an probe of an attack at the multi-storey car park at Terminal 3 on Sunday. Prior to the attack, two female travelers had their luggage stolen after getting out of a car park lift, police said.

A three-year-old girl was caught up in the incident in the event. Several persons went to hospital for treatment and were later discharged.

The incident – which authorities stated was a standalone event and not being treated as terrorism – led to train delays and the partial closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 parking area for a short time.
